Love, Betrayal and Lies 'The Scent Of Love'

There is an actress I really like. It’s actress Chun Woo-hee. While looking through all of her films, I came across a movie called "Love, Lies," and I’d like to introduce it. Especially if you enjoy music films, I think it’s a movie you can definitely enjoy. 

1. The Plot 

In 1940, So-yul and Yeon-hee are inseparable friends at the last remaining Korean courtesan school in Gyeongseong. Soyul, known as the ace of the “Daeseongkwonbeon” thanks to her outstanding looks and singing talent, has Yoonwoo, the greatest composer of the time who loves her. Yeonhee was a Korean courtesan loved by everyone for her naturally gifted voice. At the time, Yunwoo was looking for a singer who could perform “The Heart of Joseon,” fitting for the era, and in pursuit of this song, Soyul and Yeonhee ultimately end up going in completely different directions. 

2. The cast and Director
Han Hyo-joo, the lead actress in the film "The Beauty Inside," played So-yul, while Chun Woo-hee, famous for the film "Han Gong-ju," played Yeon-hee, and Yoo Yeon-seok, who played a child actor in the film "Oldboy," played Yoon-woo. And the director was Park Heung-sik, who directed "I Wish I Had a Wife Too." 

3. What to watch for 
Since it’s a music film, there are plenty of things to listen to. I especially recommend the songs “The Heart of Joseon” and “Love, Lies” as the film’s main songs. Actress Chun Woo-hee is already well known for playing the guitar and singing well, but what was even more surprising was actress Han Hyo-joo’s singing ability. The clean tone and sound processing, and how much effort was put into making it for the film, were something I could feel while watching the movie.  And the costumes they wear, fitting the 1940s setting, are also a visual treat. I especially felt that the hanbok worn by Soyul and Yeonhee was very beautiful.  Although this film was made in 2016, it is even more meaningful as it is director Park Heung-sik’s most recent and final work. I wonder why he no longer makes films. 

4. Personal Review 
Personally, I have seen about three movies. I probably would have watched about two more times if it were still available on Netflix. While watching the film, I was able to reflect on whether it was love or friendship. I think Yoon-woo’s change of heart made So-yul change, and especially the love between Yoon-woo and Yeon-hee was enough to make So-yul feel betrayed. I think that if they had sincerely apologized to Soyul even once, the tragedy of the film would not have happened. How can you fall in love with your best friend’s boyfriend? And how could you not feel sorry? I think it might be a fictional setting in a movie. And I think the final scene, where, after some time has passed, Soyul sings “Love, a Lie,” was a lonely yet sad scene. She gave herself to the Japanese army to punish Yunwoo and Yeonhee, who had betrayed her, and as a result, she was ultimately left alone. If you want to enjoy beautiful songs and a tragic romance, I recommend this film.

A Korean Monster Thriller Movie 'The Host'

I don't really like movies that feature non-existent entities. However, the movie "The Host" was a film that completely changed that idea. It’s partly because it’s a film by director Bong Joon-ho, whom I admire, and partly because the monster’s appearance wasn’t overly childish.  1. The Plot  By the peaceful Han River riverside, Park Hee-bong, who runs a convenience store, and Park Kang-du, who helps his father, were spending time as usual. If I had to pick the hottest male actor in South Korea these days, I think it would be actor Park Jung-min. At a domestic film festival, he thrilled many female fans with a collaborative stage performance with singer Hwasa, and today I’d like to review his romance film, Miracle.  1 .
