The best Korean Occult thriller movie 'Exhuma'

Do you like occult movies? I didn’t particularly like the occult genre, but after watching director Jang Jae-hyun’s films, I became captivated by occult movies. I also really enjoyed watching the movie Sabaha The sequel, “Pamyoh,” was so popular in Korea that it drew over ten million viewers. 


1. The Plot 

Hwarim, a shaman who has been commissioned by hundreds of millions, and Bonggil meet the eldest grandson of a family experiencing strange phenomena in the United States, and Hwarim learns that the ancestral burial site is the problem, urging them to relocate it.  Then, with the help of Sangdeok, a Korean geomancer, and Yeonggeun, a mortuary doctor, they began exhuming, and Sangdeok’s ominous premonition proved correct… As a result, something harsh comes out into the world. 


2. The Cast and Director 

Kim Go-eun, currently one of South Korea’s hottest actresses, plays Hwarim; Lee Do-hyun, famous for the “The Glory” series, plays Bong-gil; Choi Min-sik, one of South Korea’s top actors and known for the film Oldboy, plays Sang-deok; and Yoo Hae-jin gave a passionate performance as Yeong-geun. And for the director, Jang Jae-hyun, a leading figure in Korean occult cinema, we had the films The Priests and SABAH as his works. 


3. What to watch for 

This movie hides many secret things. First of all, all the characters’ names are taken from South Korean independence activists. And on the license plate used in the film when the grave was exhumed and the body was relocated, the date of Korea’s Liberation Day is engraved. And actress Kim Go-eun reportedly trained with a real shaman to play the shaman’s role and worked to recreate gestures and such in the film. And the scene where Bonggil chants sutras is said to have been recited exactly as the sutras used by shamanistic practitioners. Since strange phenomena also appeared on site, it might be fun to watch the film and then look up these episodes to watch it again. 


4. Personal Review 

I watched the movie Exhuma in the theater, and perhaps because I entered the dark cinema first and experienced its somewhat eerie atmosphere before watching the film, it felt even more enjoyable. People who are afraid of horror movies may want to avoid it because there are some rather frightening scenes. The film is divided into a total of six chapters, and it seems to be split into two main parts, but I also felt that the first part was more immersive and more enjoyable.  And the steady performances of Choi Min-sik and Yoo Hae-jin, combined with Kim Go-eun’s shaman role, greatly heightened the film’s tension, which was very good. After watching the film, I wanted to understand it more deeply, so I watched it about twice more, and the more I watched it, the more I thought it was very well made.

A Korean Monster Thriller Movie 'The Host'

I don't really like movies that feature non-existent entities. However, the movie "The Host" was a film that completely changed that idea. It’s partly because it’s a film by director Bong Joon-ho, whom I admire, and partly because the monster’s appearance wasn’t overly childish.  1. The Plot  By the peaceful Han River riverside, Park Hee-bong, who runs a convenience store, and Park Kang-du, who helps his father, were spending time as usual. A Heartwarming Korean Drama Movie' Miracle'

If I had to pick the hottest male actor in South Korea these days, I think it would be actor Park Jung-min. At a domestic film festival, he thrilled many female fans with a collaborative stage performance with singer Hwasa, and today I’d like to review his romance film, Miracle.  1 .
