A K-Drama Classic I still Love ‘Coffee Prince(2007)’

There is a drama that comes to mind every summer. It's Coffee Prince. It's already been over 15 years, but it's a summer drama with memories of my 20s that are very precious to me. It was made based on the original novel, and I've read the book, but I'd like to vote for the drama.

1. The Plot

Eun-chan, a girl who has lost her father and lives with her mother and sister, is passionate and brave in everything. In contrast, Hangyeol, who grew up as a son of a rich family, is still in his immature 30s. He takes over a cafe that is ruined by his grandmother's call and is given a mission to make a profit for three months, and he gets involved with Eun-chan while catching a pickpocket for his friend Yu-ju. Eun-chan needed a job, and Eun-chan becomes a male-dressed woman to work at Hangyeol's cafe, where only men can work. As time goes by, things get strangely twisted as Hangyeol starts to be unable to control his mind toward Eun-chan.

2. cast and director

Now, the movie star Gong Yoo, who became too famous, Yoon Eun-hye, who was a K-pop idol, and Lee Sun-kyun and Chae Jung-an played the main characters, and the director is Lee Yoon-jung, who is said to have noticed the delicacy that only female directors can express. I think it was a perfect casting with the character that I wonder if there were actors like them even after 10 years.

3. What to watch out for

It's fun to watch how much actor Yoon Eun-hye, dressed as a man, melted into the character and how her feelings with Han-gyeul change after revealing that she is a woman. In addition, it is fun to watch the changes in their square relationship, not only Eun-chan and Han-gyeul, but also Han-sung and Eun-chan, Han-sung and Yu-ju's relationship. In particular, there were many reviews that the relationship between Han Sung and Yu-ju was so realistic that it was called an adult relationship. Checking the beauty and summer coordination of Han Yu-ju, who is like everyone's first love, is another charm of Coffee Prince.

4. personal appreciation

It's a drama that I sometimes look up when I miss Hangyeol's passionate, pure, and heart-throbbing love for Eunchan, maybe because it was the drama that was responsible for my 20s summer. Homosexuality is not a big surprise these days, but 20 years ago, the subject was very unconventional. Of course, Eunchan was not a real man, but Eunkyul was a man who was ready to fight against the prejudice of the world for Eunchan. How many people in the world have ever had such love? Also, what was very good about Eunchan's personal growth. The scene where Eunchan, who was living in a humble job, meets Eunyul and falls in love with coffee, and eventually returns to study abroad to become the world's No. 1 barista was so impressive that even though it was a drama, it made me quite jealous of her passion and success for coffee. I even visited a coffee shop, which was the filming site of the actual drama, read the original novel. And I will never forget the Coffee Prince that made my summer excitement.
